San Juan gov’t lauds Ortigas & Co. for being top taxpayer, socio-civic champion

Date posted May 15, 2015

Manila, Philippines — Premier property developer, Ortigas & Co. took home two awards during San Juan City’s 108th Founding Anniversary held recently.

Given during the “Gabi ng Parangal at Pasasalamat,” the Special Recognition award acknowledged the legacy of service the Ortigas family has given to San Juaneños through their championing of and engagement in various socio-civic activities through the Ortigas Foundation. This was complemented by another citation, with Ortigas being named the Top Taxpayer of 2014.

Taking a lead in evolving much of the city’s locale, Ortigas & Co. has been a substantial partner in cultivating the local government’s vision to make San Juan “The City of Excellence” with, not only their prime developments but by continuing to bring people together in shared experiences and collective memories by building communities, by building life.

For more than three decades, the lifestyle center of San Juan also happened to be Ortigas & Co.’s retail crown jewel—Greenhills Shopping Center. Home to more than 1,000 tenants, this bargain destination has taken a leap forward through a massive, P25-billion redevelopment plan, which will make a complete live-, work-, and play environment.

“San Juan has been our partner since the 1970s, when we first embarked on a project to create the Greenhills Subdivisions. Our relationship is as strong as the structures we have built in the city over time. But we are not resting on our laurels. Almost three years ago we entered a new era of development—building Viridian in Greenhills, the most luxurious residential tower in the area, to make room for the next generation of Greenhills, San Juan residents. For lauding all our efforts to create and refresh this city’s landscape and for supporting local businesses, we send the thank you back to the City Government of San Juan,” said Joey Santos, Senior Vice President of Ortigas & Co.

San Juan became an independent municipality through Philippine Commission Act 1625 in 1907. Because of problems like unstable population and limited income, it took a century before San Juan was converted into a city. San Juan’s bid to become a city gained impetus during the tenure of Mayor Joseph Victor (JV) Ejercito.

Ortigas & Co., the developer behind well-loved residential, business, and commercial developments such as Valle Verde, Greenmeadows, Tiendesitas, Circulo Verde, and Capitol Commons, continues to bring people together in shared experiences and collective memories by building communities, by building life.
